Simplified Aliens Passport process to see travel document issued in a matter of days
Aliens Passport service to be centralised and offered from Identity Malta’s offices in Ħal Far
As from Monday 2nd March 2020 all services related to the issue of an Aliens Passport will be offered from Identity Malta Agency’s office in Ħal Far.
In his address, the Parliamentary Secretariat for Citizenship and Communities, Hon. Alex Muscat, held that applicants for an Aliens Passport will benefit from a simplified yet expedite service which will see the travel document being issued in a matter of days.
As a result, beneficiaries of international protection and holders of national humanitarian status, including Specific Residence Authorisation holders, will no longer need to apply for their Aliens Passport with Malta’s Emigrants Commission, but directly through Identity Malta Agency. Moreover, applicants will be able to submit their application and have their bio-metric data captured in one go. In turn, this will shorten processing time, and, under normal circumstances, an Aliens Passport will be issued in four working days.
In this regard, it is important to stress that the application needs to be submitted complete (including supporting documents), duly filled and signed by both the recommender and applicants themselves. Once that Identity Malta Agency concludes the necessary verification and assessment, successful applicants will be able to collect their new Aliens Passport from the same premises in Ħal Far. Thus, Identity Malta Agency will be responsible for processing an Aliens Passport application from beginning to end.
Hon. Alex Muscat remarked that this is another simplification measure being adopted by Identity Malta Agency, which will save applicants the time and inconvenience of having to go through different channels when applying for their Aliens Passport. Furthermore, beneficiaries of international protection and holders of national humanitarian status, including Specific Residence Authorisation holders, may also apply or renew their residence permit from the same office in Ħal Far.
Identity Malta’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Anton Sevasta held that the service provided will be more straightforward and efficient, in line with the Agency’s overarching objectives.
As from Monday 2nd March 2020, those applying for their Aliens Passport may do so at Identity Malta’s offices in Ħal Far from Monday to Friday between 07:30am to 02:00pm.
